The proposed fee structure for unaided, private schools in the State and the draft rules governing them is out. Not only are there different slabs for different levels of schooling in different parts of the State, but schools will be classified based on their infrastructure and activities provided, among other things.
The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has uploaded the draft rules on its website and invited objections within 30 days. The rules have been formulated by a committee formed by the DPI to take a relook at the fee formula for private schools in the State. The move came after private school managements raised objections to the formula fixed by the government.
HighlightsThe draft rules specify the amounts that can be collected as development fee, which range from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 1,500. The schools will be allotted the slab based on their classification – superior quality to average. There are five grades.
Additional feeSignificantly, the draft rules empower parents when it comes to collection of additional fee.
RulesThe rules specify that schools will have to consult parents when seeking additional fee, such as for swimming pools, horse riding and school excursions.
The draft clearly specifies that no fee can be collected from students admitted under the Right to Education Act quota.
