For years now, several blocks of pre-cast elements have been lined up by the side of the road. Apart from making the footpath completely inaccessible for the pedestrians, the spot has also become notorious for its transformation into a huge black spot.

Residents of Banashankari, Kadirenahalli, Pragatipura, Illias Nagar and surrounding areas are fed up of risking their lives while walking along the Ring Road, near Kadirenahalli underpass, where the pre-cast elements have been dumped.

“We have even complained to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). But the officials have just been saying the same thing… the pre-cast elements have been kept there for some project,” said Murali Raghavendra, a resident of Banashankari 3rd stage.

BBMP officials, when contacted, conceded that the pre-cast elements have been inconveniencing pedestrians, besides becoming a temporary garbage dump. They said that the pre-cast elements had been placed there to strengthen the existing storm water drain in the area. The carrying capacity of the drain has reduced a lot due to siltation, which had led to frequent flooding of nearby areas.

“The project to strengthen the drains has been already approved by the BBMP. But we are not able to take it up yet as the traffic police have not given the go ahead yet,” a senior official said and added that the traffic police are worried about the diversion of vehicular movement as the work on Rani Chennamma flyover is under progress.
