In a curious case, both the police and doctors at a private hospital bungled in identifying foul play. It has now come to light that the police took the case seriously only after the post-mortem indicated murder.

It was on Monday that realtor V. Subash (31)allegedly shot his relative Yarlagadda Venkataram (51), also a realtor, in his head at his residence over a drunken brawl. Subash admitted Venkataram to a private hospital in Whitefield saying the head injuries were due to a fall. He fled the scene immediately. The doctors treating Venkataram failed to identify the cause of the head injury despite a scan. Venkatram died on Wednesday. The drama, however, unfolded after the post-mortem report was received. The Mahadevapura police swung into action when the report revealed that death was due to bullet injuries. Pellets were also recovered from his head. They arrested Subhash from Nellore on Friday. The licensed pistol of the deceased, which Subhash had used, was also recovered. Police, who estimated the dead realtor’s multiple business ventures to be worth over Rs. 100 crore, said Venkatram had appointed Niranjani as his personal assistant to manage his business. They developed a relationship, the police said. However, accused Subhash, began an affair with Niranjani. “When Venkataram got to know about the relationship, he confronted Subash after a drinking session. In a fit of rage, Venkataram pulled out his pistol, but Subhash overpowered him and allegedly fired at Venkataram.” The police have booked a case against Niranjani, who is on the run.
