Post-mortem report on elderly couple awaited

The R.T. Nagar police are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the reason for the death of an elderly couple in Sultanpalya.

The police found the decomposed bodies of Venkoba Rao (80), a retired constable at City Armed Reserve (CAR), and his wife Kalavathi Bai (76) at their house on Tuesday. The couple neither had children nor caretakers and had lived a secluded life.

“Initial investigation revealed that it was a natural death but we have sent the bodies to Dr. Ambedkar Medical College for autopsy,” a senior police officer said. The incident came to light when neighbours came across a foul smell from their house and alerted the police. Police broke open the door to find the decomposed bodies. They found the house filled with plastic bottles and coconut shells.

The police said that prima facie it appeared that Kalavathi Bai had died two to three days prior to her husband.

The police were able to identify one relative Nagaratna, in her mid fifties, and intimated her. Ms. Nagaratna reportedly told the police that though she lived nearby, the couple was not in touch with her.
