Students from two educational institutions removed controversial posters resembling ‘The Last Supper’ for their play The Mouse Trap here on Wednesday. The play is scheduled to be staged at the Golden Jubilee Hall here on October 14.
In a press release issued here on Wednesday, Fr. Francis Lewis, parish priest of Christ Church in Manipal said that a group of students of Kasturba Medical College (KMC) and Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) have formed a cultural group called: Dramatist and Anonymous – “DRAMANON” and stage plays as an extra-curricular activity, giving a stage for their talents.
The play chosen for this month was The Mouse Trap a murder mystery by Agatha Christie. The student who prepared the poster wanted the face of mice. Unfortunately, the student found the picture of Last Supper and edited the faces. “It was not intentionally done. Apparently it looks the students involved in it had no knowledge and significance of The Last Supper picture,” he said.
Fr. Lewis said that to do justice to the sponsors they printed 400 posters and pasted in and around Manipal. “Our Catholics who saw the poster brought it to my notice. I called the mobile telephone numbers printed in the posters and asked for an explanation. The students apologised and by evening they collected all the posters and brought it to my office. I had an open discussion with the students concerned and they regretted their imprudence,” he said.
