The police are searching for N.R. Santosh, personal assistant to BJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa, in connection with the attack on and kidnap of Vinay, an aide of another BJP leader K.S. Eshwarappa.

HAL police on Monday produced Prashanth, a rowdy-sheeter whom they had arrested in Kolar on July 11, in court and got an extension of police custody for another five days. Prashanth has emerged as a key suspect.

Sources said Prashanth claimed that Santosh was part of the conspiracy. A senior official said that Prashanth claimed to have visited Mr. Yeddyurappa's residence in Dollar's Colony to meet Santosh. This prompted a special police team from the North Division to visit Mr. Yeddyurappa's house on the night of July 14 in search of Santosh.

Mr. Yeddyurappa had written to Police Commissioner Praveen Sood objecting to police visiting his house and expressed apprehension that Santosh was being set up with false evidence.
