Police open fire, arrest murder accused

The K.R. Puram police opened fire on a murder suspect who attacked them, at Kumbena Agrahara in Kadugodi on Friday morning, while trying to evade arrest.

The accused, Charan Raj, 34, sustained bullet injuries on his leg and was admitted to a hospital. The police later arrested his associates Murali and Raghu.

Raj, Murali, Raghu had allegedly hacked a rowdy sheeter, identified as Manjunath, on Thursday over a property dispute. According to the police, Manjunath worked as a water tanker driver and is named in multiple criminal cases.

A special team led by K.R. Puram Inspector Jayaraj had intercepted Charan Raj at Kadugodi. He dumped the scooter and took cover in a forested area nearby.

On being cornered by the police team, Charan Raj attacked them with a machete, injuring Assistant Sub-Inspector Narayanaswamy. In retaliation, Jayaraj opened fire and shot at Charan Raj's left leg.

He, along with Narayanaswamy, have been admitted to a government hospital in Kadugodi, and are out of danger.
