Police crack 46 vehicle theft cases

159 vehciles inlcuding 153 bikes and rest autorickshaw and cars recovered

The West division police have cracked 46 vehicle theft cases, arrested as many as 60 people and recovered 159 vehicles worth ₹ 80 lakh them them.

According to the police, of the recovered vehicles, 153 are motorcycles and rest autorickshaw and cars.

In majority of the cases, the accused are juveniles and stole bikes to practice stuns such wheeling. They would abandon the vehicles after fuel got over, the police said.

Meanwhile, the K.G. Nagar police have arrested a youth on charge of stealing 36 bikes from various parts of the city allegedly to impress his girlfriend. The accused would sell the stolen bikes at throwaway prices and buy gifts for his girlfriend.

According to the police, the carelessness of victims in most cases such as leaving the ignition key on the bike or parking it without safety measures, made theft easier.
