A POCSO case has been registered against a teacher of a government higher primary school at Lankenahalli in Koratagere taluk of Tumakuru district. He has been accused of forcing students to watch adult videos and photos on his mobile phone. According to officials, this had been going on for the past eight months.
“The teacher, Devarajaiah.S, was allegedly showing pornography to sixth and seventh standard girls. The girls had complained to their parents a few months ago, claiming that he forced them to watch the clips and would beat them if they refused,” said Mahesh I.S., Block Education Officer.
Parents approached the president of the School Development and Monitoring Committee(SDMC), but the teacher was let off with a warning.
When reports of this case started appearing in the media on Thursday, the BEO and police officers visited the school and spoke to the students.
Based on their accounts, Mr. Mahesh filed a complaint with the police and a POCSO case was registered.
Deputy Director of Public Instruction of Madhugiri Educational District K.J.Rajendra told The Hindu that the teacher, Devarajaiah, was suspended based on the recommendation of the BEO.
Devarajaiah is absconding.
"An FIR has been filed and a team has been assigned to find Devarajaiah,” Divya Gopinath, Superintendent of Police of Tumakuru district, told The Hindu .
