Plea against allowing sand extraction from tank in Bangarpet

The district unit of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) has submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner appealing not to grant permission to extract sand from Vatrakunte tank in Bangarpet taluk.

Referring to an application filed to extract sand to be transported to Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the KRRS sought the DC to not grant permission and protect the environment.

The outfit expressed concern over local officials’ initiative to grant permission in spite of district in-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy’s instruction against transporting sand to other states.

“It is the duty of the people to save the tanks that are fast disappearing in the district causing water problem,” said K. Srinivasa Gowda, KRRS district convener.

Movement of heavy vehicles carrying sand is spoiling the roads in the area, he said.
