The city police’s newly launched ‘Know Your Police Station’ app helped a 29-year-old software engineer alert them about a 47-year-old techie who allegedly misbehaved with her in a BMTC Volvo bus on Outer Ring Road in Whitefield on Wednesday night.

The woman, who works in an IT firm in Whitefield, had boarded the crowded bus to return home. “She told us that after a while, she realised that the man sitting in the seat behind her was misbehaving with her and touching her inappropriately,” the police said.

The accused was able to harass the woman without attracting the attention of other commuters. Enraged, the woman got the contact number of Bellandur Inspector Victor Simon through the app. She immediately called him and narrated her ordeal.

Mr. Simon alerted a Pink Hoysala that was patrolling an area the bus was passing through. The Hoysala team tracked the bus on Outer Ring Road and much to the bemusement of passengers, boarded the bus and arrested the man after the woman identified him.

The accused, Madhusudhan Rao, 47, who works for a firm in Whitefield, was arrested for outraging the modesty of a woman and remanded in judicial custody.

“After we got the alert, it took a total of 10 minutes for the patrolling vehicle to reach the spot and resolve the issue,” Mr. Simon said, adding that this was an example of how the app can come in handy.
