PG medical counselling schedule uncertain

January 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - BENGALURU:

Examinations are done and dusted with, but postgraduate medical seat aspirants this year have a lot more to worry about. Those who are seeking to land a government or government-quota seat are not yet clear on the counselling schedule as it hinges on the implementation of the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fee) Act, 2006.

While the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), which will be conducting the counselling, is awaiting the seat matrix from the Medical Education Department, the department, in turn, is dependent on the outcome of discussions on possible amendments to the Act. The amendments will then have to be approved by the legislature.

Students in the State, for the first time, wrote the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination for admissions to both the State and national quota of seats. The exams were held from December 1 to 6.

The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) will hold its Postgraduate Entrance Test on February 1. In 2013, the State raced to complete admissions to meet the May 31 deadline set by the Supreme Court and announced the counselling schedule with just six days to go. Last year, the announcement of seat matrix and counselling were completed in May.

It will depend on implementation of the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions Act
