Perishable cargo handling centre at KIA in 12 months

Airport services company, Air India SATS Airport Services Pvt. Ltd. (AISATS), is planning to set up a dedicated perishable cargo handling centre in Kempegowda International Airport. It will become operational within 12 months, a company official said during the ground breaking ceremony on Monday. The chief guest was Mr. Kaushik Mukherjee, Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka.

According to company officials, the centre will cater to a wide range of commodities, including pharmaceutical products, fruits, vegetables and flowers.

“It will be equipped with a drug controller lab testing facility, separate ripening zone, land-side truck docks, warehousing and re-distribution centres, cold room facilities with different temperature zones and a testing facility as per plant quarantine requirements for EU and US bound shipments,” the company said. In addition, it will also have humidity control and temperature monitoring facilities.

In recent years, there has been a substantial increase in perishable cargo handling volume.
