‘GE in 24 frames', a two-day festival of films on genetic engineering in food and farming was organised by the South Against Genetic Engineering (SAGE), along with the Bangalore Film Society, Institute For Cultural Research and Action (ICRA), ERA Organic, Bhoomi Network and Pristine Organics.
The festival was inaugurated on Friday by noted environmental activist Nagesh Hegde.
Films such as ‘Why are Warangal farmers angry with Bt Cotton?', ‘Bt cotton in Andhra Pradesh — A three-year fraud', ‘A disaster in search of success — Bt cotton in global south', all directed by Dalit women farmers of Community Media Trust, Pastapur, Medak district, Andhra Pradesh were screened.
Documentaries
On Saturday, four documentaries were screened: ‘Deconstructing supper — Is your food safe?', ‘The future of food', ‘Poison on the platter' and ‘Apna aloo bazaar becha — from subsistence ecology to the market.'
