Parents, COMED-K officials squabble over deadline

April 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:02 am IST - Bengaluru:

Tension prevailed at the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) office here on Saturday, after parents and students were involved in a heated argument with officials over the extension of deadline for filing online applications to professional courses that ended on Friday.

Many anxious students and parents, who were unable to apply online on Friday due to a technical glitch, gathered at the COMED-K office the next day to request for an extension of deadline for the UG COMED-K exam, which determines admission to various private engineering, dental and medical colleges.

However, parents and students alleged that their requests were not attended to. A parent said, “As the website server had a problem and students couldn’t file their application, we came here to make a request. But it got a aggressive as they spoke irresponsibly and did not attend to our request.”

Another student and an engineering seat aspirant said students were busy with several exams and desperate attempts to seek help by calling the office did not yield results. “This is the question of our future and I had pinned hopes on this exam,” she said. She said she made several attempts to file her application, but there was an error on the server and was unable to upload her photograph.

A COMED-K representative said a decision on extending the deadline would be taken on Monday. He said the consortium had received a good response of applications, and only a handful who waited till the last minute complained about this.
