The death of an infant after being administered routine immunization led to a protest from the parents at Chickballapur on Wednesday night.

One-and-half-month-old baby was given the injection on Wednesday afternoon.

The parents rushed the infant to the District Hospital in the night after the baby developed some health complications. However, the doctors declared the child brought dead.

The shocked parents alleged negligence on the part of the doctors and blamed the injection for the death.

However, the District Health Officer denied the allegations. “There was no problem with the injection. Forty children kids were administered the injection on Wednesday”, DHO Dr. Ravishankar told The Hindu on Thursday.

“The death may be caused due to sudden aspiration syndrome which happens after the infant is fed,” he said.

The hospital authorities informed the police following the protest and were prepared to conduct a post-mortem. However, the parents later took the body and refused to allow the post-mortem, Dr. Ravishankar said.
