President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) G. Parameshwara has welcomed the decision to ban mobile phones in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Dr. Parameshwara defended the Speaker’s decision to suspend Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Prabhu Chavan for a day after he was filmed viewing pictures of Priyanka Gandhi in the House.

He said the Speaker also warned Housing Minister M.H. Ambareesh and S.S. Mallikarjun, MLA, for looking at their mobile phones during debate. He said the House was meant for discussions on issues related to the people and so the Speaker had taken a good decision.

Answering a question on the complaint made against Mr. Ambareesh by Mandya party workers, Dr. Parameshwara said that he had not received any written complaint against the Minister.

He said the Congress party workers’ convention which was scheduled on December 21 in Belagavi had been cancelled as the people of the area celebrate ‘Yellu Amavasye’ at the same time.
