In contrast to his earlier statement, which played up “family discord” and “depression” in connection with the alleged suicide of Dy.SP M.K. Ganapathy, Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Monday clarified that he had said so based on a statement by the officer’s father M.K. Kushalappa.

“Mr. Kushalappa’s oral statement has been videographed. However, we learnt that he denied having made the statement. If my statement in the Assembly has hurt the family, I express regret,” said Dr. Parameshwara, tabling a written reply on the official’s death amidst dharna by the Opposition in the Legislative Council.

He also said that Ganapathy’s TV interview alleging professional harassment and naming Minister K.J. George and police officials A.M. Prasad and Pronab Mohanty could not be considered ‘dying declaration’ under provisions of the Indian Evidence Act.
