The number of new applicants for enrolment in voters list across the State crossed one million as the deadline to submit online applications came to an end on Sunday. The total applications are expected to be in the range of 11 lakh when the final tally is made.

As many as 1,71,409 applications, a majority of which pertain to inclusion of names, had been filed between 10.30 a.m. on Saturday and 10.30 a.m. on Sunday, the interval at which the Election Commission tabulates the figures.

With this addition, there were 10,04,338 new applicants, according to T. Shamaiah, Joint Chief Electoral Officer.

He told The Hindu that physical applications filed after 10.30 a.m. and noon on Sunday and online applications submitted till Sunday midnight will be taken into account after 10.30 a.m. on Monday, by which time the total number of new applicants seeking to exercise their franchise for the Assembly elections will be known.

On the distribution of electors photo identity cards (EPIC) to new applicants, Mr. Shamaiah said arrangements were being made for that. While distribution through BangaloreOne and KarnatakaOne centres were being worked out, EPIC would be made available at all ward offices of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in Bangalore city and taluk offices in other parts of the State. The applicants can check the status of their applications online on the chief electoral officer’s website — http://ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in, by giving the application acknowledgement number.
