Over a lakh Ganesh idols immersed on festival day

More than a lakh Ganesh idols were immersed in notified lakes and mobile tankers deployed by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on on Friday. BBMP put the figure at 1,08,302 idols.

Yediyur lake in the South division led the pack with nearly 40,000 Ganesh idols immersed there. After a point, the immersion pond was cleared to make room for more number of idols. The debris removed from the lake was lying around the lake by evening.

Ulsoor lake saw immersion of 18,000 idols while 17,150 were immersed in Sankey tank, and 10,000 idols were immersed in Hebbal lake.

While BBMP officials said not many idols were immersed on Saturday, the second day of the festival. The number of immersions is expected to shoot up on Sunday.

Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, which had deputed mobile tankers for idol immersion, is yet to collate data on the number of immersions using its mobile tankers.
