Nothing ‘model’ about this booth

April 18, 2014 12:01 am | Updated May 21, 2016 11:52 am IST - Bangalore:

While the Election Commission had said that there would be five model polling stations in each Lok Sabha constituency, there was nothing ‘model’ about the polling station in Doddaballapura.

Polling officials in booth number 137 in Government Junior College, Doddaballapura admitted they were told their centre was a ‘model booth’ only after they reached there.

Though seating arrangements and first-aid kits were promised for the booth, none of it was in place.

While there was a banner that said that women and men voters should stand in separate queues, there was just one common queue. According to voters, the only difference in the booth was that the table, where polling officers sat, had a table cloth on it.
