C.N.R. Rao, honorary chairman of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Studies and Scientific Research, on Thursday said nanotechnology is a fast developing sector in the field of science and technology.

It is instrumental in modernisation of various sectors such as energy, environment, health, defence, automobile, electronics, chemical engineering and telecommunication, Mr. Rao said while inaugurating the International Conference of Nanotechnology (ICNANO-2016) at the research centre of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) at Muddenahalli near Chickballapur. The Nanotechnology Department of VTU has organised the three-day meet in association with the Electrochemical Society of India and Bengaluru chapter of Indian Ceramic Society.

Research is going on in connection with nanotechnology at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Studies and Scientific Research, Indian Institute of Science, and International Centre for Material Science, Mr. Rao said and called upon the students to avail themselves of the benefits.

E.S. Dwarakanath, president of Electrochemical Society of India, regretted that less number of scientists are being produced as the students pursuing their studies in Bengaluru are concentrating more on earning money.
