Murthy foundation under fire

March 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated December 04, 2021 11:34 pm IST - Bengaluru:

An online petition has been started by 132 professors from across the country seeking removal of American scholar Sheldon Pollock, who is the editor of the Murty Classical Library of India (MCLI) — which translates and publishes Indian classics — for his views on JNU. The petition has received nearly 12,000 signatures. MCLI runs on donations of the Murthy family, and was founded by Rohan Murthy, son of Infosys co-founder N.R. Narayana Murthy.

Mr. Pollock is alleged to have “disrespected” the country by condemning the filing of sedition cases against JNU students. The petition demands his removal as he was not “objective” or “neutral” enough to be in charge of the “historic translation project”.

Both Mr. Pollock and Mr. Rohan were unavailable for comments.
