Akheel-ur-Rahman, an executive for a share brokering firm, has been arrested for murdering his mother-in-law Syedunnisa.

The Basavanagudi police solved the gruesome murder of a home alone woman and arrested her 38-year-old son-in-law on Tuesday.

The accused Akheel-ur-Rahman, working as an executive for a share brokering firm and resident of Anepalya, confessed to murdering Syedunnisa (54) on June 18 after she refused to help him clear his debts.

Basavanagudi Inspector S.D. Shashidhar said that the accused had incurred a huge loss in share business and real estate and the in-laws would help him clear his loans. However, Akheel continued to neglect his wife and children and invested in shares, losing huge sums of money.

He said Syedunnisa would often humiliate him and had even stopped repaying his debts. Enraged, Akheel decided to kill her and started watching videos on murder and routes to escape on the internet. After working out his diabolic plan for six months, Akheel managed to get the duplicate keys and studied the movements of his father-in-law, Mr. Shashidhar said.

On Sunday, Akheel gained entry into the house using duplicate keys and attacked Syedunnisa with an iron box while she was sleeping. A severe blow on the head rendered Syedunnisa unconscious. The accused slashed her neck with a table knife and gagged her face with a pillow to stop her from raising alarm. Akheel also sustained injuries on his hand. After confirming that Syedunnisa was dead, Akheel removed her blood soaked clothes and bed-sheet and escaped after locking the door from outside, the inspector said.

The Basavanagudi police, who took up the investigations, zeroed in on Akheel after the cops noticed fresh injury marks on his hands and picked him up for questioning. A detailed questioning led him to confess to the crime.
