Two M.Tech students of East West College on Magadi Road landed behind bars for creating a fake e-mail ID and sending mails threatening to bomb Kempegowda International Airport and hijack flights. They claimed to be members of underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s gang.
Not only did they send threatening mails, the duo had uploaded photographs of three of their professors to avenge the low marks awarded to them in the internal assessment last year. They told the police that the three professors always favoured girls. They awarded more marks to girls and neglected the duo, resulting in the latter securing less marks in the annual exams.
Enraged by this, Raghavendra S. (26) and Hoysala (23) decided to teach the professors a lesson. They created a fake e-mail ID using a computer in the college’s lab and sent mails to the airport on March 22.
The international airport police stepped up security but realised that it was a hoax. However, efforts to trace the culprits gathered pace after they received another mail on May 6. The police managed to track down the duo, who have been booked under various sections of the IPC and suppression of unlawful acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act. They have been remanded in judicial custody.

One of the mails sent from the fake ID Shubhak1101@gmail.com that they created read: “Its Dawood’s gang here. Give 10 million USD to any of the persons’ photos sent below. They are secretary of Indian unit of Dawood’s world. If you don’t give, we will keep bomb in your airport…. Be careful this should happen before evening.”
The photographs attached were those of professors Chandanraj, Dhanraj and Prasannaraj.
