In a tragic incident, a 20-year-old woman and her seven-month-old child were charred to death after a fire allegedly broke out in their tiny house in KSRTC Slum, also called as Ragigudda Slum, near Dalmiya Circle in J.P. Nagar 2nd Phase here on Friday morning.

The J.P. Nagar police identified the victims as Nisha Hussain (20) and her son Tahir Hussain. Nisha Hussain’s husband Sheik Hussain, a painter, had left for the work when the fire broke out.

The victims were natives of Andhra Pradesh and had been living in the KSRTC Slum from past six months.

According to the preliminary investigation, Nisha was preparing lunch using her electric stove when the fire broke out due to suspected electric short circuit.

Officials from the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company, police, fire, Forensic Science Laboratory and Electricity Inspectorate visited the spot.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pranab Kumar Mohanti inspected the spot.

The bodies were shifted to the KIMS for post mortem.
