Commotion prevailed at Sir M. Visveswaraya Central College metro station on Thursday morning when a group of Namma Metro employees allegedly assaulted a Karnataka State Industrial Security Force personnel after he slapped a BMRCL official over a row earlier in the morning.
Five booked
Five BMRCL staff have been booked for assaulting three KSISF personnel, including a woman.
According to the police, BMRCL official Rakesh took the KSISF personnel to task over turning up late to work, because of which baggage scanning and checking at the entrance was not happening. Though metro operations begin at 5 a.m., the KSISF personnel showed up only at 7.30 a.m.
According to eye-witnesses, at some point in the argument, the KSISF official slapped the metro official. As word spread that a metro officer had been slapped by the security personnel, agitated staff stormed into the check-in point and assaulted a police official who had come for the inquiry.
The staff and the security personnel exchanged fisticuffs and hurled abuses creating panic among the commuters for some time. The jurisdictional Halasuru Gate police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Metro officials accused the security personnel of turning late to work every day leading to security lapses frequently. The police took both the staff and the security personnel to the station for further inquiry.
“The prime accused is Rakesh, an electronic maintenance staff of BMRCL, along with four of his other colleagues,” the police said.
