Construction material used by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for metro work near Apollo Hospital on Bannerghatta Road fell on two moving cars on Thursday night. The cars were damaged, but no one was injured.

The incident took place when workers were transporting an iron beam used for erecting the pillars.

“While lifting the reinforcement cage with the help of a crane, the hook used for lifting the cage slipped and the cage fell on the rear end of a moving car. In future, all precautions will be taken while carrying out metro work," said a BMRCL official.

A police officer said, “The motorists have given a complaint claiming damages for their respective vehicles.”

BMRCL Managing Director Mahendra Jain has sought a report on the incident. “The BMRCL has instructed contractors of ongoing projects to put in place required security measures like barricading the work site, signage for diversion and illumination. I appeal to motorists to be extra cautious at night while passing near metro construction sites," he said.

Work on Phase II of the metro project is being carried out on Mysuru Road, Kanakapura Road, Whitefield, Tumakuru Road, Hosur Road and Bannerghatta Road.
