Claims that her salary has not been released

A 30-year-old employee of a private medical college and research centre has filed a complaint with the Devanahalli police accusing members of the hospital’s management of sexual harassment, criminal intimidation and terminating her contract. She alleged that the harassment followed her refusal to get fake patients to the hospital during a Medical Council of India inspection, and that her salary — amounting to Rs. 6 lakh — has not been released.

The woman, who headed a rehabilitation centre in Devanahalli, has named the director of the centre, Muniraju, his wife Pushpa Muniraju and her personal assistant Veena in her complaint.

“She told us that she had been forced to bring ‘patients’ from nearby ashrams during the annual MCI inspections between April 2014 and March 2018,” a police officer said. “She accused the management of not only harassing her but also withholding Rs. 6 lakh of her salary. We are verifying the documents and collecting statements from the patients who got treatment,” he added.

The management has refuted the allegations stating that the woman had been terminated from her post for keeping irregular work hours. “We have all the documents to prove our point and are cooperating with the investigation,” the management said.

Based on the complaint, the Devanahalli police have taken up a case against the management for sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, outraging the modesty of a woman and criminal breach of trust.
