Jailed People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Nasir Maudany, who was undergoing treatment at the Soukya International Holistic Centre, was discharged Thursday afternoon.
Mr. Maudany was admitted to the centre on January 7 as per the directions of the Karnataka High Court which had rejected his bail in November but permitted him to be treated in a hospital of his choice under police escort.
Earlier, in June 2011, he was treated in the same facility for 28 days as per the direction of the Supreme Court.
According to Isaac Mathai, Soukya’s medical director, Mr. Maudany’s discharge summary and follow-up recommendations have been forwarded to the jail authorities, where he was taken after the discharge.
The 48-year-old Mr. Maudany has undergone treatment for diabetes, cervical spondylosis, hypertension, intravertebral disc prolapse, neurogenic bladder, dyslipidemia, diabetic retinopathy, peripheral neuropathy, allergic rhinitis, frozen shoulder and related ailments.
Diet prescribed
Recommending that Mr. Maudany needs a monthly follow-up consultation at Soukya even after discharge, Dr. Mathai said: “After assessing his lifestyle and eating habits, we have prepared a detailed diet and nutritional chart for him. It is a must to include fish, eggs and milk in his diet to take care of Vitamin D deficiency. He also needs Vitamin B supplements.”
Mr. Maudany had been instructed not to take up active physical exercises.
“We have given him special instructions that include adequate sleep, regular oil application on the body, pranayama and meditation.” Dr. Mathai said Mr. Maudany needs an attendant round the clock.
“For better management of his diabetes and other health problems, and being a disabled person, he needs a close family member to attend to him.”
Pointing out that the PDP leader could not complete the prescribed treatment process during his stay at Soukya due to restrictions after his eye surgery, Dr. Mathai said, he had been advised to take adequate rest and return for a three-week treatment again.
Back in jail
After his release, Mr. Maudany was been shifted back to the central jail at Parappana Agrahara in the evening.
Jail superintendent Krishna Kumar told The Hindu he was admitted to the hospital ward and would be under medication. “We have his medical reports and they will be submitted to the department for further procedure.”
