The government-appointed committee looking into the case of Mariam Kouser, the three-year-old who has been in a coma because of alleged negligence of doctors at the Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedic (SGITO), has submitted its report to Health Commissioner V.B. Patil.
Health Director Geeta Nyamgoudar, who led the team, refused to divulge details. She said she had submitted the report to the Commissioner on Friday and he would forward it to Principal Secretary Madan Gopal and Health Minister U.T. Khader. Both Mr. Khader and Mr. Gopal said they had not yet got the report.
Yet to open her eyesMeanwhile, the girl is off the ventilator and has started breathing on her own. However, doctors said her neurological condition was still bad. The girl’s aunt, Reshma Rafi, said the family was waiting for her to open her eyes. “We are happy to see her breathing by herself. Although this is a sign of improvement, she is yet to open her eyes and regain consciousness,” she said.
The girl had met with an accident on December 13, and fractured her left elbow, for which she was operated upon at SGITO on December 16, after which she went into a coma. Relatives lodged a complaint with the Tilaknagar police. She is currently being treated at Malathi Manipal Hospital.
