A 23-year-old electrician, working in the Indian space Research Organisation (ISRO) on contract basis, allegedly smothered his newly married wife to death on Saturday.
The accused took her to a hospital claiming that she had committed suicide, but the post-mortem report confirmed that the death was not due to poisoning, but smothering. Based on the post-mortem finding, the police picked up Gangaraju (23), who later reportedly confessed to the crime.
According to the police, Gangaraju married his niece, Prema (19) in July this year.
Gangaraju, who had a girlfriend before marriage, reportedly continued his relationship even after marriage. Prema, who came to know about this, used to object, which led to frequent fights between them.
She also fought with Gangaraju whenever he came home late.
On Saturday, the couple had a fight over the same issue, following which he allegedly smothered her to death with a pillow.
He later took her to hospital stating that she had consumed poison, the police said. They have booked a case of murder against Gangaraju.
