The Vijaya Nagar police on Tuesday arrested Venugopal on charges of torturing his wife and keeping her under house-arrest for days in Mudalapalya.
According to the police, Venugopal married Shobha three years ago and harassed her frequently for more dowry.
Last week, Venugopal physically tortured her and bit her all over the body before locking her up in a room in the house.
Shobha with the help of neighbours, alerted her parents in Mandya who rushed to the house on Sunday and rescued her after scuffle with Venugopal.
Meanwhile, Venugopal has been admitted in a hospital and the police are waiting for his discharge to arrest him on charges of domestic violence and remand him to judicial custody on Tuesday.
