The City Market police have arrested a person for illegally transporting nine barrels of Kerosene near Mysuru Road on Saturday night.

Police officials have identified the accused as Suresh (28), a lorry driver and a resident of Garvebhavipalya.

Based on information, police intercepted the truck and seized nine barrels containing 1,800 litres of blue kerosene worth Rs 1.10 lakh from the accused.

The driver tried to dodge the police when he was asked to produce the necessary documents for carrying kerosene. The police subjected him to detailed questioning and learnt that he was transporting the kerosene illegally.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that his modus operandi was that he would bribe the tanker drivers who transported kerosene when they stopped at isolated places and collected unaccounted litres of kerosene. They would then, sell it in black market at a higher price. He was on his way to supply the kerosene to one Krishna, when he was arrested, said the police.

The police added that it looked like a huge racket and also pointed out the alleged involvement of several people.

A case has been registered and the police are on the lookout for Krishna, who is currently absconding.
