Madiwala Tank Bund Road to be widened

The congested stretch on Madiwala Tank Bund Road is all set to be widened. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials have been directed to take up widening soon and ease congestion on this stretch by Transport Minister and City in-charge Ramalinga Reddy.

According to a press release here on Friday, the Minister, who was accompanied by Mayor B.S. Sathyanarayana and BBMP Commissioner M. Lakshminarayan, said that the road has to be widened by 20 meters.

The tender for the same has already been floated and is in the final stages. Since the land that has to be acquired for widening belongs to the Lake Development Authority, the Minister directed the BBMP officials to submit a proposal for the same for approval. The team also inspected B.T.M. Layout and Silk Board Junction. At Silk Board junction, Mr. Reddy told officials concerned to remove the weeds grown on the traffic island and maintain it properly. He asked them also to remove weeds from Madiwala lakebed.

Labour issue

Later, speaking to reporters, Mr. Sathyanarayana attributed the inordinate delay in the completion of the C.N.R. Rao underpass to labour problems.e-toilets and

Mr. Sathyanarayana said that he was going to use his funds to establish 100 e-toilets in different parts of the city. The e-toilets, which have a sensor-based technology, are made of steel, require less space and consume less water. Each toilet will cost Rs. 4.5 lakh and the officials have been directed to identify places, especially in congested areas such as parks and bus stations, to install these toilets on a pilot basis.

The BBMP would also be establishing automated parking facilities on pilot basis at its head office and in Gandhinagar.
