Lokayukta police to book Varthur Prakash

March 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - Bengaluru:

The Lokayukta has ordered the Lokayukta police to register a case against Kolar MLA Varthur Prakash for alleged criminal intimidation of an official. An activist had lodged a complaint against Mr. Prakash after the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy released an audio recording of a purported telephonic conversation between Mr. Prakash and the tahsildar in the Kolar Deputy Commissioner’s office. Mr. Prakash allegedly threatened the tahsildar of getting a Lokayukta case booked against him.

“The Additional Registrar Inquiry-2 has submitted a report opining that the telephonic conversation in question prima facie discloses offences under Section 13(1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and various sections of IPC against Mr. Prakash,” said Syed Riyaz, Additional Commissioner, Lokayukta. The report has been forwarded to the Additional Director-General of Police (Lokayukta).
