Bird song, the blare of car horns and other vehicular traffic, the buzz of people in a market: these everyday sounds are a constant in our lives.
Gabi Schaffner, an interdisciplinary travelling artist from Berlin in Germany and curator of sound art, composition and visionary documentation, has strung together a 20-minute audio of sounds from the city, which will be presented on October 25.
Called ‘Resounding Bangalore’, the event is her final presentation as part of her six-week stay in Bengaluru. Schaffner had been invited to work in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Max Mueller Bhavan. “This is my first visit to the country. Wherever I travel, I pick up new sounds and record them. They give a new perspective about the place. The sound materials will be processed into a sound installation,” said Ms. Schaffner.
She had recently organised 'Megaphone Guerilla’, a public poetry performance by poets wielding megaphones reciting what it means to be a resident of the city. “An excerpt from the event will be played during the Resounding Bangalore event,” she said.
