Residents who live around Varthur lake made a strong pitch for rejuvenating the lake along with Bellandur lake, when the expert committee visited the latter on Thursday.

Members of Whitefield Rising coordinated a meeting between the residents and the team. While they strongly urged rejuvenating both the lakes together, they also expressed concern that untreated sewage entering Bellandur lake may be diverted to Varthur lake (downstream of Bellandur) during rejuvenation.

The residents also brought to the committees notice rampant encroachments of the lake area and dumping of construction debris.

Mahendra Jain, Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development Department, who leads the committee, directed revenue officials to conduct a survey of the lake and fence it.
