Labourer falls to death at metro worksite

A 33-year-old construction labourer was killed on the spot when he slipped from the first floor of the under-construction metro station at Hesaraghatta on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Kamlesh Ram Buhiya, a native of Jharkhand, who working at the site for the past one year.

Kamlesh was climbing the stairs to go to the first floor when he slipped and fell on the ground at around 11 a.m.. The stairs did not have railings, which led to the accident, the Peenya police, which is investigating the case said, attributing the mishap to “negligence” on part of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited.

Though the worker was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious head injures, doctors declared him brought dead.

Kamlesh’s death comes less than two months after 47-year-old Govindaraju, a supervisor, was crushed to death at a metro construction site in Peenya Junction on July 28 this year.
