Members of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) United Employees Union staged a protest against the managements of KSRTC and BMTC for their alleged “anti-employee attitude” here on Friday.
The members alleged that the managements were trying to terminate the services of employees in the name of disciplinary action.
K.R. Vijay Kumar, union president, said, “Both KSRTC and BMTC have failed to provide low cost transport to the common man. Leakages in revenue and mismanagement have pushed KSRTC and BMTC to losses, thereby burdening the public and employees of the two corporations.”
He said that the KSRTC and the BMTC were only increasing the fares to make good the loss.
“If the fare is fixed based on the operation cost, people can be provided with good transport facility at 30 per cent lower than the existing fare.”
The income of KSRTC and BMTC could double its income by prudently utilising its fleet, besides plugging revenue leakages.
The union has now demanded KSRTC and BMTC to reinstate those whose services were terminated. A memorandum was submitted to Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy.
