KRRS workers staging a protest on Tuesday demanding action to control illegal quarrying in Kolar district.

Members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha staged a protest in front of the office of Senior Geologist and Mines here today demanding action against those involved in illegal stone quarrying in the district.

This activity is causing huge loss to the government besides causing damage to the environment, the protesters said. The miners are plundering natural resources without any fear of legal action; and the explosives used in granite quarrying are resulting in workers employed in the quarries getting injured and disabled, sometimes resulting in death, the protesters alleged. They warned of intensified agitation if the authorities did not take steps to control the illegal quarrying.

KRRS Vice-president Narayana Gowda and district convener K. Srinivasa Gowda participated in the protest.
