KPSC appointments: HC adjourns hearing on plea

January 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - Bengaluru:

The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday adjourned till January 16, the preliminary hearing on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition seeking a direction to the Governor to frame guidelines to make appointments to the posts of Chairperson and members of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC).

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D.H. Waghela and Justice Ram Mohan Reddy deferred hearing, allowing the petitioner to make the Secretary to the Governor a responding party instead of the Governor himself. The law does not permit the Governor to be made a party directly in certain cases. The petitioner, Abraham T.J., a social activist, also sought a direction to the State and the Governor not to appoint anyone to these positions till the guidelines were framed.
