The Kolar district police have nabbed the main accused in the case of a man from Mysuru being cheated of Rs. 50 lakh. With this number of arrested in the case gone up to four.
Rakesh Raje Urs, owner of an educational institution in Mysuru, was deprived of Rs. 50 lakh in the name of doubling the amount on June 28 this year. Superintendent of Police Divya Gopinath gave the name of the arrested as Vijay Anand alias Sathish, a resident of Banaswadi in Bengaluru. He was arrested in Bengaluru on Tuesday morning.
The gang members took Mr. Urs to a hotel on the outskirts of Kolar on June 28 and promised to give him Rs. 1 crore if he gave Rs. 50 lakh to them. However, they took the money and dropped him at a place without keeping their word, Ms. Divya told reporters on Tuesday.
Mr. Urs filed a complaint with the jurisdictional Town Police and a case of cheating was booked. A special team was formed to nab the culprits. The police have already arrested Thomas George, Bashir and Anand in the case and are looking out for accomplices Chandru, Sathish and Rahul who hail from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. A sum of Rs. 13 lakh and a car used at the time of the crime have been recovered from Vijay Anand, the SP said.
