The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), whose jurisdiction is spread over 800 sq km, earns a meagre Rs. 30 crore a year from advertisements/hoardings in the city.
The Rajender Kataria report said the Kempegowda International Airport (KGIA), Railways and the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) have, in contrast, exploited the market commercially to maximise the revenue from advertisements. KGIA earns Rs. 200 crore, while Indian Railways earns Rs. 15 crore a year through advertisements.
It said the BBMP, on the other hand, has failed to capitalise the entire commercial market of advertisement owing to absence of policy.

The probe report found illegal installation of more than 20,000 hoardings in the city. The BESCOM has provided power connections to hoardings without verifying the permission of the BBMP.
In some cases, domestic power supply was converted into commercial without permission or payment, the report said.
While the airport is spread over a few hundred acres, the BBMP lords over 800 sq km
