Minister for Public Works Department H.C. Mahadevappa has said that the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Mallikarjuna Kharge, is capable of becoming the Prime Minister not just because of his caste credentials but due to his administrative capacities and having been an able parliamentarian.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday and answering a query on change in leadership in the State, Mr. Mahadevappa said that the Chief Minister’s post is not vacant and hence the question of change in leadership does not arise.

He said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also wants a person from the Dalit community to become the Chief Minister; however, the right time has to come and people have to give their mandate and legislators have to give their consent.

The Minister denied conducting any meeting regarding leadership change in the State and said that the Congress party will face the 2018 Legislative Assembly election under the leadership of Siddaramaiah.
