Karnataka is a model for development in the fields of education, health and agriculture, said Governor V.R.Vala during the centenary celebration and inauguration of a new building of the Government Higher Primary School, Honasigere, Tumakuru taluk on Monday.
He said lot of good work is being done by the Karnataka government in the field of education be it primary, secondary, college and higher education. Speaking on the need for providing good infrastructure to Government schools in the State, he called upon philanthropists to support the schools.
Meanwhile, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Tanvir Seth said that State government is contemplating not to give permission to open new private schools in the next five years to protect government schools.
Mr.Seth said that 5000 government primary schools will be upgraded this year. Not only buildings will be provided, but focus will be on quality education. He said an action plan has been prepared for this purpose. Karnataka Education Policy 2016 will be lauched soon for which suggestions have been taken from the Knowledge Commission. Along with Kannada, other languages will be introduced to the children, he said.
Swachh Bharat Mission:
He said the State government is not receiving a singe rupee from Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. However, he has written a letter to the Union government seeking funds under Bala Swachh Bharat Mission to provide drinking water and toilets in government schools.
He said they have also approached industrialists, MPs’, corporate organisations to give funds to the government schools.
He said it is a matter of concern that 57 percent of children studying in fifith standard in private schools can read and write a sentence, whereas only 13 percent of children studying in the government schools can do that.
He also said no school will be closed due to lack of strength. MLA, Suresh Gowda, MP, Muddahanumegowda and others were present.
