The Kannada version of Malala Yousufzai’s memoirs ‘I am Malala: The girl who stood up for education and was shot by the Taliban’, was released by prominent Kannada writer Bolwar Mohammed Kunhi on Saturday. The book was translated by journalist Jayaprakash Narayan and published by Akruthi Books.

Mr. Kunhi said that there was an attempt to whitewash the politics behind the West celebrating Malala Yousufzai and also accused the publishing world of trying to cash in on the ordeal of a young girl by selling her story.

Journalist G.B. Harish, who spoke about the book, said that there is an attempt to paint Islamic religion with a broad brush and that it is unfair to judge the community by the deeds of the Taliban. He said that the Western world had failed to make a nuanced evaluation of Islam.
