JNU row is hurting nation, says Venkaiah

February 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:42 am IST - Bengaluru:

The Centre would not tolerate any anti-national activities on university campuses, said Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday.

Speaking at an event here, he said it was the “duty” of all political parties to condemn such activities. Referring to the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) row, the minister said: “What is happening in JNU is really disturbing; maybe a few handful are doing it, but it is bringing a bad name to the university and hurting the country.” He said there were now certain trends on campus turbulence that were relatively new. “The issues that have created disturbances on campuses appear to be increasingly detached from the concerns of the wider society,” he said. However, most educational institutions were remarkably disinterested in the issues that preoccupy the minds of student activists and this is reassuring, he said.
