Five Border Security Force (BSF) personnel who were detained by the Siddapura police for unruly behaviour at Lalbagh on Sunday were released on bail on Monday.
This came after senior BSF officials intervened, promising to probe the matter and take action against the accused, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H.S. Revanna said.
The five were among 47 BSF personnel who were accused of misbehaving with women and assaulting security guards, policemen and bystanders who tried to stop them. Head constable Suresh, constable Anveer (both from Siddapura police station), security guards Samad, Prashanth and Suresh, and civilian Jayaram were injured. Suresh has been admitted to hospital; the others were treated as outpatients.
According to the police, the BSF jawans are undergoing ‘bugle training’ at the BSF’s subsidiary training centre in Yelahanka. As it was Sunday, they were sent on a picnic to Iskcon, Cubbon Park, Bannerghatta and Lalbagh. By the time they were at Lalbagh, most of them were intoxicated, the police said.
