The former Minister G. Janardhan Reddy is expected to be released from Bengaluru Central Prison on Friday as the Supreme Court order granting him bail was brought to the notice of the CBI Special Court in Hyderabad on Thursday, following which bail formalities were completed.
The Special Court granted the release order, which was communicated to the Chanchalguda jail, which, in turn, faxed the order to the central prison here. However, bail formalities in one of the four Belekeri port cases, in which Mr. Reddy was granted bail a month ago by the CBI Special Court, Bengaluru, is yet to be completed, said counsel for the former Minister C.H. Hanumantharaya. “We will complete the formalities on Friday and we expect Mr. Reddy to be released by evening,” he said.
In light of the possible release of Mr. Reddy, Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi has imposed prohibitory orders in a radius of half a kilometre from the prison at Parappana Agrahara from Thursday afternoon to Friday midnight.
The orders, under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, were imposed in anticipation of law and order problems as a large number of Mr. Reddy’s followers are expected to gather at the jail to celebrate his release.
